Fly fishing in Sweden 🇸🇪 is a fantastic experience, offering pristine waters, abundant fish species, and stunning natural landscapes. Here’s what you need to know:

Best Locations for Fly Fishing in Sweden

Dalarna County

Famous for its rivers like Österdalälven and Västerdalälven, known for large brown trout and grayling.
Lake Siljan is great for pike and perch on the fly.

Jämtland & Härjedalen

Home to legendary rivers like Ljungan and Indalsälven, with strong populations of Atlantic salmon and sea trout.
Lake Storsjön offers Arctic char and grayling.

Västernorrland & Ångermanälven River

One of Sweden’s best Atlantic salmon rivers, with peak seasons in July–September.
Also has sea-run brown trout.

Lapland (Norrbotten & Västerbotten)

Remote and wild, with rivers like Torneälven and Kalixälven for giant grayling and salmon.
Excellent for Arctic char in mountain lakes.

Southern Sweden (Skåne & Småland)

Smaller streams with wild brown trout.
Lake Vättern has landlocked salmon.

Target Species

Atlantic Salmon (July–September)
Brown Trout (year-round, best in spring/autumn)
Grayling (summer/early autumn)
Arctic Char (summer in mountain lakes)
Pike & Perch (warmer waters, spring/autumn)

Best Times to Fish

Spring (May–June): Hatches begin, trout and grayling active.
Summer (July–August): Salmon runs, dry fly fishing for grayling.
Autumn (September–October): Big trout and salmon before winter.

Regulations & Licenses

Fishing License (Fiskekort): Required for most waters. Buy online or locally.
Catch & Release: Encouraged for salmon and trout in many areas.
Private vs. Public Waters: Some rivers require additional permits.

Gear Recommendations

Rods: 5–7 wt for trout/grayling, 8–10 wt for salmon/pike.
Flies:
Dry flies: Elk Hair Caddis, Adams (grayling/trout).
Streamers: Woolly Bugger, Zonker (pike, salmon).
Nymphs: Pheasant Tail, Hare’s Ear (deep trout).

Tips for Success

Match the hatch – Swedish rivers have strong mayfly and caddis hatches.
Wade carefully – Many rivers have slippery rocks.

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
