Crafted by the River – Glenn Delporte
Glenn Delporte’s life pretty much started by the water—guess it’s no surprise, given his name. "Delporte" comes from Gaelic, meaning "valley," and honestly, it fits. You’d think it was fate or something, the way he’s always been drawn to rivers. For a solid decade, he worked as a hydrobiologist with the AAPPMA de la Nive, getting to know every twist and turn of the Basque Country’s watersheds like the back of his hand.

Fly fishing? That’s where Glenn really found his groove, especially through competition. But what lights him up these days is teaching—whether it’s kids just starting out, adults looking to refine their technique, or even tenkara enthusiasts. There’s something about watching it click for someone, you know? He’s big on tying the whole picture together: the cast, the catch, and understanding the river itself. To him, that’s how you really pass on the passion.
Oh, and if you’re after brown trout, grayling, or pike—well, Glenn’s your guy. He’s spent years figuring out their quirks, where they hide, what makes them bite. Funny how a hydrobiology background comes in handy there. But don’t expect a lecture; he’s more the type to show you, knee-deep in the current, pointing out the spots most folks walk right past.
