Fly Fishing Adventures in Southern Rivers
You know, at Southern Rivers Fly Fishing, we’re not just about catching fish—though that’s definitely part of it. It’s more about those moments that stick with you, the kind you find yourself replaying in your head months later. New Zealand’s rivers? They’ve got moods, man. Some days they’re generous, others… not so much. But that’s where we come in. We’ll adapt, pivot, maybe even switch rivers if we have to—always keeping you in the loop, because at the end of the day, it’s your trip.
Our whole deal is easing folks into this fly fishing thing without the intimidation factor. No stuffy guides here—just solid, down-to-earth people who know their stuff. Safety’s non-negotiable, but so is having a laugh when someone’s line gets tangled in a bush (happens to the best of us).
Now, about Jake Berry—funny how life works. Grew up in Wanaka, right in the thick of the South Island’s wild side, surrounded by grizzled old-timers who lived for the outdoors. Kid barely out of diapers and he’s already dreaming of guiding. Fast forward 20 years, and here he is: running Southern Rivers, chasing trout through water so clear it’s almost unfair. Dude’s got this sixth sense for where the fish are hiding—call it obsession, call it talent, either way, you’re in good hands.
What’s on offer? Well:
Half-day, full-day, or go big with a multi-day trek.
Two guides who’ve forgotten more about fishing than most will ever know.
Scenery that’ll make your Instagram followers hate you.
And the fish? Oh, we’ve got opinions. Brown trout—sneaky, stubborn, and my personal favorite to outsmart. Rainbows? All muscle and attitude. Either way, you’re in for a fight.
So yeah, that’s us. No corporate fluff, just real people, real fish, and the kind of stories you don’t have to exaggerate.
