How to tie the Improved Clinch Knot
One of the most popular knots for attaching your tippet or leader to a fly. The difference with the regular clinch knot is that this one brings the line back through the big loop before tightening the knot.
Step 1
Make a loop through the eye, wrap around itself
Just like with a regular clinch knot, put your line through the eye of the fly then wrap it around itself for about 3-6 times, then take it back through the loop that's at the eye of the fly.
Step 2
Bring the line back through the big loop
This is where the difference is with the clinch knot: bring the line back through the big loop.
Step 3
Tighten the knot
Pull on the tag end to full tighten the knot, and cut of any excess tag end line.
